The Tower Program

The Tower Program is a non-clinical component of the Meadows Educational Center.  It serves students age 12 to 19 who may be at risk of dropping out of school because of behavioral problems, attention problems, or general learning difficulties.  Respecting the individual strengths of our students, the Tower Program uses a small group approach involving life skills, experiential learning and adventure based recreation to help each student achieve educational success.

Staff

The Tower Program is led by staff who are highly skilled in working with students who have problems with low self-esteem, low motivation, and high frustration levels. Other Tower Program staff members are dedicated to and experienced in working with at-risk youth. The staff's emphasis is on career exploration and academics through hands-on learning and small-classroom study.

Program Philosophy

The teaching philosophy of the program is based upon identifying and nurturing the strengths of adolescents. No matter what a student's learning style is, the Tower Program pinpoints the individual's academic and social development needs, and develops a customized curriculum that is evaluated and negotiated during the academic year.

Teachers work with students to address a variety of behavioral issues, including verbal and physical aggression; use of language that is profane, vulgar, or disrespectful; defacement or destruction of property; truancy; inattentiveness and distractibility in class; and inappropriate responses to adult authority figures.

Students enrolled in the Tower Alternative School Program work on a plan to graduate from their home school. The goal is that when a student leaves the Tower Alternative School Program they are ready to either return to their home school, on track to graduate and be with the students of their grade level, or are ready to enter the world after high school, with a diploma.
